Classic to Mid-Century Modern, William Kopelk debuts InsideOutside, a full service design firm
William Kopelk, landscape architect, interior designer, and project manager launches a full service design firm that marries exterior environments with interiors. The development of InsideOutside in Palm Springs, California has become the pinnacle of Kopelk's design abilities.

Formally trained in landscape architecture, InsideOutside's founder has worked in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo and Kuwait.  Some of the most influential design projects include; Harvard University, The Architects Collaborative, AT&T, Silverscreen Studios, Northwest Airlines and Mitsui, to name a few.

InsideOutside's birth was ignited by Palm Springs life and the
Mid-Century Modern movement.

"Working here has anchored my total work experience.  Being drawn (from as early as I can remember) to the classic designs and designers of the 1900's to present has influenced all my design projects.  Now, living within this magnificent resurgence has brought my work to new heights.

Exploring the possibilities with my clients and celebrating the greatest design movement of our times, enables more creativity than I've ever dreamed of." states InsideOutside founder Kopelk.

"One of my most zealous projects was the Edgar J. Kaufmann house in Palm Springs (built in 1946 by the revered Mid-Century Modernist, Richard Neutra) where I was chartered with having to make sense of the gardens by integrating the home's compound with the landscape.

"I employed my classic 4 Step Approach to customize the gardens for my client; Analyze, Evaluate, Create A  Design Solution and Implement.
The result was a total utilization of ground and air."

Every aspect of the garden experience was considered.  The landscape became a tactile celebration of touch, smell, and sight.  As you walk through the now complete garden, the juxtaposition of texture and shape works seamlessly with the acclaimed architecture.
InsideOutside received its most meaningful reward at the conclusion of the Kaufmann project - total elation with the results.  The client's shared:
"This is the first time we feel our personality shone through at our property."

Creating a service for clients that incorporates classic design understanding, with historical knowledge of the Mid-Century Modern movement makes sense now. "We are moving away from the definitive, specific styles of the past where there were confining parameters.  Today, design is much more interpretive, less rigid, and most importantly, "adaptive" and "reusable" through a sensitive "blending" of elements that join together and create the solution".

InsideOutside brings a highly intuitive sensitivity to each project.

"I am drawn to each client on a very personal level", states InsideOutside founder Kopelk.  Flexibility and resourcefulness is employed immediately, while setting the structure for the very pragmatic 4 Step Approach.

Customized care and strategic planning accompany each initiative.  Acute lighting expertise is always integrated into every customized solution at InsideOutside. Classic to Mid-Century Modern, InsideOutside defies all style boundaries.

From landscape to lighting, total interiors to project management, you set the goals, InsideOutside realizes your dream.

InsideOutside accommodates complex corporate projects to simpler residential ones.  Design services are available in the United States and internationally.
